Working With Transparency – Part 1

How to Use Viddyoze Transparent Templates (Part 1: Understanding Transparency)

If you’ve ever downloaded a transparent animation and dropped it into your video editor, only to see a black background — don’t worry, you didn’t do anything wrong!

Transparent videos use something called an alpha channel. This is an extra channel that tells your editing software which parts of your video should be see-through. But here’s the catch:

  • Not all video formats support alpha channels.

  • Not all video editors handle them the same way.

  • Regular video players won’t display transparency properly — because what would show behind your video? Your desktop? Not really helpful!

Viddyoze transparent templates come in three different codecs:

  • Apple ProRes 4444 – High quality, works well in pro editors on Mac and Windows.

  • PNG codec – Packs your video as a series of transparent PNG images. Super compatible, but bigger files.

  • GoPro Cineform – High quality, great for DaVinci Resolve.

👉 Tip: If you’re looking for a good editor that supports transparency:

Check your editor’s specs, make sure it supports one of these formats, and you’ll be up and running.

Most of our transparent overlay templates are available to Pro users only. Do you want access to all of them?
